New Zealand Motorcycle Atlas

In 2000 I was privileged to author 'Great Escapes - A Guide to Motorcycle Touring in New Zealand,' published by Longacre. This was the first book to recognise the different roads favoured by motorcyclists, and to recognise the tourist potential of 'marketing' these routes more widely.

In 2004 I had the privilege of motorcycle touring Australia using the Australia Motorcycle Atlas authored by Peter Thoeming and published by Hema Maps in 2003. I immediately appreciated the advantages of this book with its use of full-colour, and ability to represent a wider variety of motorcycling roads, including gravel road routes and I saw the need to extend such an Atlas to New Zealand.

After discussions with Hema, I was pleased to be asked to help them produce this Atlas, and am very thankful for the assistance they have provided.

In this Atlas we hope to further extend the concept of motorcycle touring in New Zealand:

  • The first Motorcycle Atlas to feature   20 'Gravel Road Routes' favoured by more adventurous riders with suitable motorcycles.
